How to put a name on an Italian charm bracelet

Spell a name, initials or a date in letter charms: how many links it takes, how to space it, and ideas that look good.

Count the links first

Every letter takes one link, and a band has 18. A five-letter name like SOFIA leaves 13 links for everything else, which is plenty for a heart, her sign and her birthday month.

Longer names work too. MARGARITA takes nine links and still leaves room either side to frame it.

Centre it, then frame it

A name reads best in the middle of the band, where it sits on top of the wrist. Put a small heart or a star either side of it and it stops looking like a label and starts looking like jewellery.

Mix the styles on purpose

Crystal letters on silver links catch the light; gold letters feel warmer. Pick one style for the name so it reads as one word, then play with colour in the charms around it.

Not just names

Initials of the people you love, or a word like AMOR or LUCKY, work the same way: one link per letter.
